Solar
With high energy prices in the news and the cost of solar panels decreasing now is a great time to start to generating your own energy.
Solar energy generation is often used independently but is fantastic when twinned with other solutions such as a Heat pump.
Solar Thermal
Solar water heating systems, or solar thermal systems, use energy from the sun to warm water for storage in a thermal store or cylinder.
They don’t need direct sunlight to work but because the amount of available solar energy varies throughout the year. A solar hot water heating system might provide 100% of the demand required in summer but will need to be supplemented in winter, at 90% efficient a solar thermal system is the best way to harness the sun’s energy.
Solar Photovoltaic
A solar PV panel consists of many cells made from layers of semi-conducting material, When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created.
They don’t need direct sunlight to work and can even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated.
Solar PV systems are made up of several panels, and generate direct current (DC) electricity. Because the electricity used for household appliances is alternating current (AC), an inverter is installed along with the system to convert DC electricity to AC. This electricity can be used throughout your home, stored in a battery or exported to the grid.
